A copy of this handbook will be sent to each student accepted to the Honor Concert program
Student Eligibility
All students participating in any High School Choir/Band/Music program within
Auditions
Auditions shall be held for the purpose of determining the level of proficiency of the candidate for participation in Honors Concert. CD or Taped submissions received by the deadline and clearly marked will be eligible. Live audition evaluations will serve as a guide to the determination of chair placement.
Fees
Student participation fees are $25.00 per student accepted to the Honors program. Students that fail to complete their commitment to the Honors program will still be charged. Invoices are mailed to each Director. See your Director for your school policy on participation fees.
Program ads
Program ads may be purchased by filling out the program ad form in your acceptance packet. Programs are provided free of charge at the event.
Tickets
No tickets are needed; this event is open to the public and free of charge.
Attendance
Students shall be present at the designated time and place for all rehearsals and concert. Schedules are provided in your application packet. Attendance at all rehearsals is Mandatory in order to continue in the Honors Program.
Students not meeting appropriate standards for attendance, promptness, behavior, attire and preparation shall be subject to disciplinary action. This can come in the form of a warning, suspension or expulsion, at the discretion of the SJCMEA Board in consultation with their Director.
Instruments and Equipment
All participants shall provide their own instruments and accessories for all rehearsals and the concert. Instruments are to be in good repair and working order.
Music and Music Folders
It is the responsibility of each participant to take good care of all music literature and folders issued to them and to return them in good condition to their Director on the day of the concert. If a member is required to make notations on the music, only a light marking with a pencil should be used. Lost, forgotten, unreturned or damaged music literature or folders will be billed to the responsible participant. Folders are numbered and an accurate account of all music is taken by the SJCMEA.
Concert Dress Code
Ladies are to wear black bottoms such as slacks, dress, or skirt and black shoes. White top such as blouse, sweater, jacket. School Concert attire will be allowed.
Gentlemen are to wear black dress pants with white dress shirt. Black shoes with black socks. Tie or Jacket and School Concert attire will be allowed.
Hair is to be neatly groomed and away from the face.
Items not allowed:
Extremely high heels - Exposed shoulders or backs - Tennis shoes - Dresses above the knee
Safety
In order to better assure the safety and well being of our students, the SJCMEA requires that Directors attend all rehearsals to help supervise all students.
Each district has their own transportation policies; see your Director to make travel arrangements. Students are to arrive and leave with their designated transportation.
Member Information
Student paperwork must be completed and returned to their Director prior to the first rehearsal. In the case of an emergency this information is needed.
Directors will provide their students with contact information and must be contacted prior to any missed rehearsal. If you do not attend rehearsal and your Director is unaware of the reason for your absence you will be dropped from the program. If you cannot reach your director, please call the SJCMEA at 209-468-4973.
Video Taping
We do allow outside video taping at the concert providing you remain in your seat. No tripods
or lights please. The SJCMEA offers a DVD of this event for $12.00. You may order the DVD at the event.
